# Learn about Editor mode

## Switch between 2D / 3D modes

The editor provides four viewer modes.\
You’ll use Floor (2D) and ISO View (3D) the most, so be sure to remember the shortcuts!

#### Floor (2D mode)

: This mode lets you view the drawing in a 2D plane.\
It’s useful when placing, copying, or moving furniture, or when setting up a layout.\
It also displays dimension information, so you can see distances between furniture or between walls and furniture at a glance, which is a big help when planning a layout.

#### Plan view

: This mode lets you view the entire space from a top-down perspective.\
In this mode, you can check the space with a sense of depth, making it easier to understand furniture placement and structure more clearly.

#### ISO View (3D mode)

: This mode uses an isometric view in 3D mode so you can view products in three dimensions.\
You can check the front, side, and top of a product at the same time, allowing you to fine-tune furniture placement and design.\
In particular, this mode is often used when moving products up and down or placing finishing materials on walls.

#### First-person viewer

: This mode lets you explore the space from a first-person perspective.\
It feels as if you were actually inside the space, allowing you to experience the interior design and inspect details directly.\
However, in First-person Viewer mode, you cannot place or edit products; only viewer functions are available.

Shortcut

| Name                    | Shortcut |
| ----------------------- | -------- |
| **Floor (2D mode)**     | 1        |
| **Plan view**           | 2        |
| **ISO View (3D mode)**  | 3        |
| **First-person viewer** | 4        |

## 2D view mode settings

There are also various buttons in the view mode with the eye icon at the bottom of the editor.\
You can turn features on and off, and using them appropriately can be a big help with your work. Shall we take a look one by one?

#### View mode

* Grid: You can turn the grid pattern shown in the background on or off.
* Guide lines: You can show or hide guide lines added while drawing the floor plan.
* Floor furniture: You can turn on or off in bulk furniture whose position property is set to the floor.
* Wall furniture: You can turn on or off in bulk furniture whose position property is set to the wall.
* Ceiling furniture: You can turn on or off in bulk furniture whose position property is set to the ceiling.
* Building/Materials: You can easily turn structures created with the Building/Materials editor on or off.

#### Room view

* Space name: The room type or the name you set manually is displayed.
* Space area: The area is automatically calculated and displayed on the 2D floor plan.

#### Dimension line view

* Inner wall dimensions as default: Inner wall dimensions are displayed by default. You can check the exact dimensions between walls.
* Hide dimension lines: If you don't need dimension lines, select Hide dimension lines to hide them. Useful when making a clean drawing.

#### Measurement line

* You can show or hide measurement lines added using the measurement function from the tool icon at the top of the editor.

## 3D mode settings

### Display mode

Archisketch offers four display modes.\
Using these modes makes it easy to check the exact outline of products, which is useful when working in more detail.\
Each mode is as follows.

* Normal mode: By default, products are displayed according to their color and texture. Use this in a typical work environment.
* Wireframe mode: A mode that shows only the product's outline, so you can accurately understand the product's shape, which is useful for placement and alignment tasks.
* Material + wireframe mode: This mode emphasizes product details.\
  Use it when examining areas that need texture or detail.
* Transparent wireframe mode: In 3D view, you can better check the product's depth and dimensionality.

### Performance mode

\[Display First] and \[Performance First] are two modes for optimizing the screen in the Archisketch editor.\
Each mode sets the user's work environment differently, operating in a way that prioritizes either display or performance.

* Display First: The elements shown on the screen appear clear and detailed.\
  It is useful when visual quality matters, but it may be somewhat slow on complex models.
* Performance First: Simplifies the screen display to provide fast response speed.\
  It performs more smoothly when working on complex tasks, but the visual quality may be slightly lower.

### Camera settings

Click the camera-shaped icon at the bottom right of the editor to set the camera position, azimuth, and field of view in the editor's 3D mode.

![](/files/4f6597fc99f82bb7ac9e391c965f5436edb9a5dc)

* Perspective: With the camera altitude set to 35°, azimuth 47°, and field of view 60°, depth and perspective are naturally expressed in the space.\
  You can check a realistic sense of space similar to what you would see with your own eyes.
* Orthographic: You can accurately understand the structure and proportions of the space without perspective distortion.\
  This is a useful view when objectively reviewing furniture placement or spatial dimensions.

### Sunlight

Sunlight is applied by clicking the sun-shaped icon at the bottom right of the editor.\
Clicking this icon creates an effect as if actual sunlight were coming in, allowing you to view the model realistically.

* Sunlight settings are also linked with Render Studio, so the applied settings are reflected during rendering.

## Other functions

### Lock floor plan (2D mode)

After finishing the floor plan drawing, when decorating the plan by placing furniture or finishing materials, this function locks the walls so they don't move.\
Using this function lets you safely place other elements without accidentally changing the walls.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you tried to modify a wall while working but the wall doesn't move, check whether 'Lock floor plan' is enabled!
{% endhint %}

### Screen capture

This function lets you easily download the editor screen as an image file. It can be used in both 2D / 3D modes.

**In 2D mode**

* The entire floor plan is automatically resized to fit.
* Dimensions and room names are excluded.
* The result is downloaded in PNG format.

**In 3D mode**

* The currently displayed view is captured exactly as shown.
* Downloaded in PNG format.

### Zoom in / out / Fit to screen

If you want to zoom in or out without using the mouse wheel, please use this function.

![](/files/a445bc78f2c5bbd44674fb3d7dbad7a4c6c6d4ea)

❶ Zoom in: The editor screen zooms in.

❷ Zoom out: The editor screen zooms out.

❸ Fit to screen: The floor plan is automatically adjusted to fit the screen.

### Dimension unit

You can convert and view dimension units as \[mm] and \[ft/in].

### Move around the floor plan with the minimap

The entire floor plan **minimap**can be checked at a glance. When working on a large floor plan, you can quickly see your current position and move to where you want.

<figure><img src="/files/8cf8333cb36389bbb687a461f9830fa1db3648d2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Features**

* By dragging the handle at the bottom left, **you can adjust the minimap size**.
* **It can also be used the same way in the 2D/3D floor plan editor as well as the ceiling, finishing, and parametric editors**as well.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Pro tip** — If you enlarge the minimap on large floor plans or floor plans with multiple spaces, you can greatly reduce the hassle of moving around the screen.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.archisketch.com/guide/user-en/make-project/editor-modes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
